Pampaneira

It is beautifully green...because there is so much water coming down from the Sierra Nevada...These villages are high up in the Alpujarras...above Orgiva

They sell the most beautiful rugs and bedcovers all woven in the region and in a wide variety of lush colours...The feel of the area changes as you climb higher up and the architecture changes subtly...there is a wider use of wood and stone externally which is very attractive…
If you want to visit both in the same day go on a Thursday which is market day in Orgiva...

Orgiva

Just over an hours drive inland and you reach Orgiva...the market is on Thursday and is worth going to for the usual fruit and veg and spice and dried fruits and clothes..e.as well as being the alternative capital of the area...so you get a wide selection of crafts for sale too...There is a shop in the centre which sells very good brown bread of which there is a great choice with seeds and without...also delicious cakes...There is a new craft art shop nearby with artists work from over 20 nationalities exhibiting there. Both sides of Orgiva there are two beautiful hand made tile shops as well as all the usual ceramics of the region...

There is also an internet café…

From Orgiva you can easily visit Llanjarron...wher the bottled water comes from...or go on up to the villages higher up in the Alpujarras of which Pampaneira is the first...
